• Year 6 pupils rowing their way to success!

  On Tuesday, Mr Isles and Mrs Rochelle took four teams to Langley Secondary school for this year's regional Level 2 School Games Rowing competition.  This event is open to all schools in South Solihull.  

   

  The children, to their credit, have been practising really hard for the event, after school on Mondays, and their commitment definitely paid off! 

   

  At the end of a very competitive regional final, all of our teams performed admirably with one of the boys' teams narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round after finishing 3rd overall.  However, one of Greswold's girls' teams, which included Esme, Heidi, Molly and Paola, finished 2nd overall meaning they will now progress to the County Finals in February. 

   

  Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to hearing about how the girls get on in late February.  

  

• Pre-immersive training for year 6 from Solihull's Cycling Team

  Recently, Year 6 pupils have received training from the Cycling Team from Solihull's Sustainable Travel department.  This pre-immersive training programme has helped the children to look at safety and hazards on the road when cycling, a perfect follow-up to their Level 2 Bikeability course in year 5.    The trainers also got them to think about observations and checking the road before carrying out turns. 

   

  Later in the year, there will be a number of pupils eligible to participate in Level 3 Bikeability so these sessions were ideal preparation.  Thank you to year 6 staff for organising such as pertinent learning experience and the perfect transition for when pupils start their secondary schools. 

  

• Walking in a Winter Wander-land!

  Even though many of us feel like hibernating in January, let's know let the weather get us down!  Living Streets', the company who runs our Travel Tracker, has released a Winter Wander-land scavenger hunt.

• Y3 Egyptian Day

  On Friday, all year three pupils took part in a wonderfully immersive experience to help kick off their learning of a new history topic. 

   

  This term, the children will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians and so, the staff organised a visit from an Ancient Egyptian workshop company, courtesy of funding from our very own PTA! 

   

  Thank you to all families who contributed in making the day such a memorable occasion by helping their children to dress up in very authentic costumes, and the staff looked fabulous too.  

  

• New Travel Tracker badges awarded today!

  Today, nearly 180 Travel Tracker badges will be awarded to children who have actively travelled to school at least once a week in the month of December. 

   

  The badges themselves are brand new with school receiving them just last week.  They are part of the 'Walk with Imagination' theme for this academic year.  

   

  A special well done to Reception Bumblebees, Year 5 Sycamores, Oaks and Elms and Year 6 Maples and Willows whose engagement is all above this year's target of 30%. 

  

• A tough start but positive learning experience for the boys' football team

  Up against two exceptional teams, the boys' school football team endured a tough start to the new league season. 

   

  Pitted against Tidbury Green and Our Lady of the Wayside, the players had to to spend prolonged periods of time defending as a team.  However, their battling qualities along with the fact they constantly demonstrated our Greswold values particularly in the second game, meant there was still a lot to be very proud of. 

   

  After losing the first match 3-0 to Tidbury Green, the team were 3-0 down at half time to an impressive Our Lady of the Wayside team in their second game.  However, the players were challenged to not give up, to work for each other and to show the qualities that makes a Greswold pupil in the second half.  Subsequently, the second half was a really pleasing performance with the team nearly pulling the goal back and the score remaining the same until the final whistle. 

   

  Mr Hornsey was very proud of the team and reminded the players that they learn more about themselves in defeat than in victory.  Onto the next match next month against Valley Primary at Old Silhillians on the 4th February.     

  

• A rising tennis star right here at Greswold!

  It's been wonderful to celebrate the recent out of school achievements of our Greswold pupils and it doesn't stop there!

   

  Jacob, in year 3, has been recently selected to be part of the Warwickshire County Cup training squad for Under 8 boys.  What a magnificent achievement and at such a young age.  Well done Jacob and we look forward to hearing about your future successes. 

   

  It's about time we had another British winner of Wimbledon!    

  

• Once again, Greswold pupils showcase their artistic talents!

  Yesterday's art exhibition was a thrilling success! Thank you to all of the families who visited at the end of the school day.  It was very clear that everyone who attended were incredibly impressed with creativity and standard of artwork on show.  

   

  The artwork belonging to winners and runners-up continue to be displayed around school for the rest of the academic year for everyone to enjoy.  Well done to all of the children who participated.  We are lucky to have such talented children here at Greswold!

  

• An important message from the Solihull Sustainable Travel Team

  This morning, Mrs Nathuru, from the Solihull Sustainable Travel team, joined Mr Hornsey for KS2 assembly.  She spoke to the children about important matters relating to air pollution and was very impressed with just how active Greswold pupils are. 

   

  One of the main matters of discussion was idling, which is cars parked with their engines left running.  The children were very surprised to hear that idling cars produce ten times more air pollution then cars travelling at 30mph. 

   

  Thank you to Mrs Nathuru for taking the time to visit school and talk to the children about really important global issues.   

  

• Been bright, be seen' competition winners announced!

  In this morning's Air Pollution assembly, the winners' of the recent 'Be Bright, Be Seen' competition were awarded their prizes.  The task was to design either an outfit, t-shirt or backpack which stood out and was visible in the dark during winter months. 

   

  Again, Greswold's artistic flair was definitely on show and The Junior Travel Ambassadors found it very difficult to judge the entries.  Eventually, the winners were chosen and were awarded their prize of a key chain torch this morning.  A special well done to year 3 where all the children entered and so each class received a class point.
