Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Greswold's Travel Tracker engagement is now at 25% and slowly creeping up to this year's target of 30%. That target would mean 30% of our pupil population are regularly using the Travel Tracker to log their travel each day, thus helping the school to promote active journeys, alleviate traffic congestion and make travelling to and from school a safe and happy experience.
A special well done to Y5 Oaks where nearly 3/4 of the children are using the Travel Tracker. So far, over 500 badges have been issued along with nearly 30 WOW Ambassador badges, for those pupils who have shown their dedication to promoting active travel.
Greswold's school choir brought some festive cheer to Solihull Hospital on Thursday as they, once again, sang a series of carols and Christmas songs for the general public.
It was lovely to see how many people stopped and listened to the fabulous singing, and you could really see the smiles that the choir had put on people's faces.
Thank you to Mrs Jones for organising such a worthwhile visit which really showcased our school values and how Greswold aspires to work with the local community through outreach experiences such as this.
Today's House Point assemblies really showcased the effort and attitude of all the children at Greswold this half term. Not only were certificates given out to the children who earned most house points this term for their house but other certificates were awarded too, for attendance, sporting achievements, Running Club and for BEAM (Balance Education and Movement).
Currently, as a school, the whole school attendance is 94.8%. However, Y5 Sycamores' attendance so far this year is 96.5%, nearly 2% above the school average. Well done to Y3 Sparrows who attained the best attendance for this half term of 96.1% and a very special well done to Bumblebees in Reception who had the most improved attendance for this term, 3% better than last half term!
Each key stage assembly was also treated to a rendition of 'The 12 days of Christmas' by our school choir, a lovely way to add the finishing touches to such celebratory assemblies.
The very cheeky elf was up to it's tricks in Mr Hornsey's office this week and, by viewing the photos below, you'll appreciate just how cheeky it has been! Mr Hornsey hasn't turned his posters or pictures back around yet either!
The girls' football team ended their league season, yesterday evening, with two thrilling matches at Old Silhillians.
Both matches, against Knowle then Eversfield, were keenly contested and ever so close. Unfortunately, on this occasion, Greswold were beaten 2-1 in both matches meaning they will agonisingly miss out on the Playoff-Finals.
Nevertheless, all the players involved have been a real credit to themselves, their families and Greswold. As a few members of the team are still only year 5, it bodes well for next season!
A special mention also needs to go to the families of the players who were incredibly supportive all season. Thank you.
Year 1 pupils were involved in special lessons this morning involving all sorts of wonderful animals and creatures! As part of their curriculum learning, the children learnt about a range of animals, including spiders and scorpions, with some children getting the change to hold them!
Thank you, as always, to the PTA for funding such as wonderful opportunity.
This morning in KS2 assembly, pupils in years' 5 and 6 who have violin lessons treated us all to a fabulous festive concert. Along with a few solo performances, the children came together at the end to give a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells. Thank you to their music teacher, Mrs Marks, for organising such a lovely performance and well done to all the junior children for being such an attentive audience.
Congratulations to our Y6 basketball team who won all three games in the first round of their tournament. The team were also awarded extra points in each game from the referees for teamwork, respect and honesty.
Good luck in the next round in January.
Greswold's Language Leaders have put together a very innovative idea for Language of the month for December. They have used the influence of advent to create a countdown calendar with a different language for each day.
The leaders themselves have come up with the artwork as well and each class now has the opportunity of exploring that particular language for that day. Well done to the Language Leaders for such a fabulous idea.
This year, year 3 pupils have been developing their musical percussion skills using African drums. In partnership with Solihull Music Service, a teacher comes into school to work with each class for an hour each week, and this week, parents got their first chance to witness the wonderful work that's been happening.
Y3 Wrens were first up last week to present their performance to parents and what a fabulous performance it was. Well done children.
