Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Children in Years 2 to 6 got a treat when Perry the Bull popped into a special assembly. The mascot for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham helped the children to find out more about the events that will take part at the event. It was a lively assembly with plenty of fun and volunteers were needed to take part in the activities. Many thanks to Perry and his friend for giving the children such a fun end to the week.
Children in Years 1 and Year 2 had a lovely Spring day for an All Stars Cricket taster session. The coach took the children through a number of different activities including throwing, catching, batting and fielding. If you child was inspired and wants to find out more about how to join an All Stars Cricket club, you can visit the ECB website.
In assembly today, the children from Reception to Year 6 were introduced to Greswold's much anticipated Active Travel campaign due to start next week. The launch of the campaign coincides with a national challenge called Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel (21st March - 1st April) and and concludes in unison with the Living Streets Walk to School Week from 16th - 20th May 2022.
Greswold have managed to secure funding through the government's Active Travel Fund meaning the campaign and subsequent active travel challenge will be incentivised in order to engage pupil and families even more. Every children, including Nursery pupils, can be in a with a chance of winning some wonderful prizes including bicycles, scooters, Smart Activity Tracker watches and WOW badges, if they can actively travel to school on three or more occasions each week.
Every child will be allocated a symbol to use to log their progress using a specially designed Living Streets website called Travel Tracker. Those children who achieve the most badges (by actively travelling at least 3 times each week) over seven weeks will be added to a grand draw to win the prizes mentioned above. Families will be kept up to date with the progress of the campaign and the challenge itself over the duration of the seven week period.
The following modes of transport will be deemed as being active:
Walking, cycling or scooting all the way to school
Using a Park & Stride venue (Places are still available at the Hub on Hermitage Road)
Using the Bus
Parking outside the 5 minute walking bubble for families who live a distance away from school and walking the rest of the way (Check the Sustainable Travel page in Parents for information about walking bubble).
For more information on how to actively travel to school, pleaser refer to the Sustainable Travel page in the Parents section of the website.

Thank you for your anticipated support.
Once again, the Greswold Sportshall Athletics team treated the audience to another exhilarating and thrilling display of athletic prowess, sportsmanship and teamwork to become the School Games South Solihull Area Winners for 2022. They were up against 5 other large school finalists all vying for a place in April's County Finals. However, after winning 5 of 12 track events, the team were able to secure first place with a points tally which was even greater than the previous qualifying event, a very impressive feat indeed. Thank you to the families who came to support the children from the viewing balcony, you helped to mark a great occasion.

The Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire County Finals will again take place at North Solihull Sports' Centre on the afternoon of 28th April.
Thursday marked the final games of the Boys' 'A' & 'B' team league and friendly fixtures for this academic year. In total, 20 boys represented Greswold really well in the two very hard fought games against Monkspath (league) and Sharman's Cross (friendly).
The pupils again demonstrated our Greswold values in their teamwork and sportsmanship and were a credit to both the school and their supporting families. The 'A' team found themselves 3-0 down early in the second half of their league match and managed to pull the game back to 3-2 with a couple of minutes to go, demonstrating their hard work and determination. They then piled on the pressure to get the equaliser but it was Monkspath who scored the final goal, eventually winning 4-2.
The 'B' team grafted extremely well in their match and found their confidence in the second half. Even after falling behind to Sharman's Cross, they never gave up and eventually scored to level the game, the final result being 1-1.
Well done to all the players who have represented the school teams this year. You've really given everything you could. Thank you.
Science is very much a school focus at Greswold this year and in the recent Science poster competition to display our new Science Values, Beatrix in year 6 came 2nd and Aanya in year 6 came 1st. They picked a 'Science' book they'd like as a thank you for participating and coming 1st and 2nd out of all the entries. Well done to you both. The new poster has now been digitised and will be on display on our School website very shortly.
It might have taken a long time to complete but today, pupils who at times attend The Nest, were happy to celebrate their success in completing a very tricky (yet delicious!) 1000 piece jigsaw. Well done children.
Year 3, 4 and 6 seemingly turned into a museum this week with numerous project homeworks on show. Well done children for being so motivated and creative.

Well done children. You constantly represent the school and its values perfectly and your improvement and determination is very noticeable to see.
Today marked our third House Point assembly of this academic year. Every element of the assembly brilliantly reflected how successful our school has been this term. Looking back over the events and stories from the Latest News on our school website was the perfect way to show how individual pupils, classes, year groups, sports' teams, the PTA and the whole school community had worked together, helped each other, overcome adversity, persevered, and on occasion took little steps at a time to eventually become successful in whatever they set out to achieve.
A special well done to Hedgehogs in year 1 who attained the best attendance for this half term and congratulations to Sparrows in year 3 who remain the best attended class this academic year.
However, a special mention to the children who represent St David's house team across the school. At the end of last term, they were challenged by Mr Hornsey to push themselves a little harder in order to gain more house points and help their house improve and get closer to the rest of the houses on the leader board. Not only have they achieved that but they even managed to gain the most amount of points of all four houses this half term. Congratulations children and keep up the successful work.
