• Greswold out in the community!

  As part of Community Week and our role of being a Sustainable School, Greswold was out in the community picking up litter and improving our local environment.  Part of taking care of our local community is by keeping it clean and ensuring we don't drop litter. Unfortunately, most of the litter we found was directly outside school so we must remind pupils and families take rubbish from after school snacks home. The last photo is a crisp packet we found in the woods with a date of 1997 on! That is proof of how long litter stays in our environment for - even after 24 years the packet has not degraded.

• The Mayor Visits Greswold

  The Worshipful The Mayor Solihull Councillor Ken Meeson visited Greswold this morning as part of Communities Week. He received a tour of the school from three Y6 pupils with highlights including looking at our PTA Easter Competition entries, visits to Bumblebees and Nursery and time in the library.

  The Mayor was able to find out about our educational visits and progression in learning from talking with children about the photo boards and subject boards. Skylarks also shared their Bollywood Dancing from their morning workshop! The Mayor also visited House Point assembly led by Mr Hornsey and congratulated the children on their achievements. 

  A group of Y6 pupils then sat down with the mayor and asked him about his role as mayor and his commitment to Solihull. Thank you to the mayor for sharing so many stories of his life and his involvement in the lives of young people. 

  

• So much to admire and marvel at....

  This week, children throughout the school brought their wonderfully creative PTA Easter competition entries into school to be judged.  A variety of creations including bonnets, decorations, scenes and even poems were on display for everyone, including the Mayor of Solihull, to view and be inspired by.  The difficult task of judging a winner from each class was given to Mr Evans and Mr Hindley, the site managers, who found it very hard to pick a winner whilst also finding it thoroughly enjoyable.  Well done to each class winner and to Ezra in year 4 who was the overall school winner with his creation entitled 'The Devilled Eggs'!  Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to families for your support too as well as PTA for providing the prizes.  

  

• What a lovely way to start the week!

  It was a lovely surprise to walk into the staff room yesterday and find a basket of goodies from one of our very kind families.  What a wonderful way to start the week! Thank you very much for sharing your Ramadan celebrations with us - Ramadan Kareem to all our families celebrating. 

   

  

• Active Travel campaign update - Week 2

  Dear Parents and Carers,

   

  Week 2 of our Active Travel campaign indeed continued the positive start that week 1 provided.  284 Living Streets WOW badges were given out on Monday to pupils who had achieved the target of three or more active journeys in each of the first two weeks.  There are in fact 310 pupils who have now reached the target with the additional children receiving their badges by the end of this week. 

   

  Well done to Sycamores who top the table with the amount of journeys logged.  Out of a possible 300 journeys, these classes have logged the most:

   

  Sycamores - 244

  Cedars - 237

  Nightingales - 202

  Elms - 200

   

  However, Cedars attained the most badges in March with 21 in total and a special well done to Hedgehogs who have managed to make 100% of their recorded journeys active! 

   

  91.3% of all journeys logged throughout Greswold have been active which is fantastic.  Well done to everyone for participating. 

  

• History and creativity combine again at Greswold thanks to Year 1!

  School has been taken over by a wonderful assortment of castles thank to year 1.  No mater how big or small, every single one has demonstrated how committed the children and their families have been in making this home learning project successful.  Well done year 1, they are all amazing! 

  

• Year 4 Standon Bowers visit - a credit to Greswold

  Year 4 have recently returned from their residential visit to Standon Bowers and what a weekend it was! Climbing, caving, archery, team building games and camp fire songs were just some of the activities the children took part in, as well as making their beds of course!  Each member of staff who accompanied the children has remarked on how wonderfully behaved year 4 were with each pupil representing the school and our values perfectly.  Thank you to Standon Bowers staff and all the Greswold teachers who went for making the weekend such a memorable experience.  Well done year 4.   

  

• Greswold Active Travel campaign update

  After reviewing the results of the first week of the Active Travel campaign, three classes have logged over 100 journeys so far. 

   

  Out of a possible 150 journeys which could be logged by each class, Nightingales in year 4 logged 126, Cedars in year 6 logged 117 and Sycamores in year 5 logged 114. 

   

  In terms of journeys which have been deemed as active, it’s very pleasing to announce that an average of 92% of all journeys logged so far have been active. 

   

  Let’s keep up the positive start and keep logging those journeys, especially pupils from Nursery, Ladybirds (Rec), Squirrels (Y1), Badgers (Y2), Sparrows (Y3), Skylarks (Y4) and Chaffinches (Y4), all of whom have below 40% engagement so far.

• A memorable visit to Play Town

  Some of our children visited Solihull's Play Town on Tuesday 22nd March and had a fantastic time! The purpose of this trip was to ​develop communication, literacy, and numeracy skills through imaginative play in real life scenarios. 

   

  It was fantastic to observe the children in a different setting, role-playing with their peers and engaging with the different resources that were available. This is very local to school and we highly recommend a visit!  We all know that children learn best when it is through play and Play Town enables children to develop and extend their imaginations.

   

  I would like to thank Mrs. Willis for organising the trip and our fantastic support staff, Mrs. Owen, Miss Baker and Mrs. Taylor.
