Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Dear Parents and Carers,
We've reached the end of the first week of our 'Punctuality Push' campaign, a chance for Greswold to highlight the lifelong importance of being punctual and on time. Time for an update.
In total, there were 104 pupils late into school in the mornings compared to 115 last week which is a small but pleasing improvement. However, just under half of those lates (46) were attributed to 'traffic'. Although Monday was quite rainy and Wednesday was very foggy, the advice shared last week will help to still avoid lateness. Leaving the house a little earlier when weather dictates there will be more traffic on the roads will help your children to still arrive at school on time.
Thank you to the one parent who attended this week's coffee afternoon to discuss matters relating to punctuality. It was still a really interesting and purposeful meeting. Mr Hornsey is hoping for more parents to attend next week's coffee morning on Wednesday between 9-10am. Again, if you wish to attend, please inform the school office beforehand.
Thank you to the parents who have also communicated their their own helpful tips and successes which help their children to be on time for school. We will share these in the coming week. If you wish to offer your own tips or advice, please click on the link below and complete the short survey.

Next week, school will be focusing on afternoon collections as well as morning drop-offs so please remember that collection times are 3:10pm for years' 3, 4, 5 and 6, 3:20pm for Reception and years' 1 and 2, and 3:30pm for Nursery.
Thank you and here's to a further improvement next week.
Another memorable morning for the Greswold Sportshall Athletics team as they took part in the School Games' Level 2 South Solihull Area Finals at North Solihull Sports' Centre.
After winning their qualifying heat, Greswold were up against the seven best schools in South Solihull with the aim to finish first out of all the large schools to make it through to the County Finals and be crowned South Solihull champions.
Another challenge the children faced was that two members of the team were taken ill meaning teammates had to step into their events at the last minute while keeping to the rules of competitors taking part in only a maximum of four events in total!
The children were magnificent, winning 8 out of 12 sprint events and being crowned champions by a margin of 80 points! A fantastic achievement culminated in the children receiving medals and being invited back to North Solihull to compete in the Level 3 County Finals on 21st March. This time, schools from Warwickshire and Coventry will compete with Greswold and the North Solihull winners.
Roll on the 21st! Thank you to the parents who came along to give their support as well. A real team effort!

School was yesterday visited by the Solihull Schools' Nurse Team who carried out weight and height checks on all pupils in Reception. The feedback given by the team was very complimentary who expressed their delight at how well behaved all of the children were. The team wanted to pass on their thanks to parents.
At Greswold, we firmly believe that parents should be partners in learning. The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) published in 2018 that 'Parental engagement has a positive impact on average of 4 months’ additional progress. It is crucial to consider how to engage with all parents to avoid widening attainment gaps.
Therefore, through working in partnership with Solihull College, we have been able to launch and run a series of parental workshops, the first of which has been focussing on understanding of grammar to support children in key stage one and two. The workshops have been that popular that within one day of sharing these with our parental community, the number of parents/carers showing interest was over double the size of the cohort we were able to offer.
Therefore, we look forward to offering more workshops in the future.
A massive well done needs to be given to a whole host of people for this week's very successful Bring and Buy Sale.
An original idea thought of by Greswold's Eco Team was brought to reality with the help of the Greswold school community and the PTA.
After a substantial amount of donations were made by children and parents, Greswold staff and members of the PTA helped to host a Bring and Buy Sale in the upper school hall on Monday after school.
In total, £336 was raised, a magnificent achievement, which will help to finance the recycling of old school text and library books by paying for the cost of shipping them to Africa. Last year's campaign to recycle books, in partnership with the charity, Books2Africa, meant about 13 boxes of books were donated and shipped to Nigeria for children to further enjoy and learn from.
Thank you to everyone involved in such a fantastic project, a perfect example of how uniquely enterprising the Greswold community is.
Greswold would like to take this opportunity to thank the generosity of our parent community who helped to raise a substantial amount of money for school when visiting the BookFair during our recent Parent Consultations.
In total, over £2000 worth of books and stationery were sold meaning that the school received £1192 in commission, all of which will be used to finance the purchase of new books for the school library for our whole school community to enjoy and benefit from.
Thank you for working in partnership with Greswold and for promoting reading, a real team effort!
After a slow start to the boys' football league season, Gresowld finished their campaign this week with a third consecutive victory, this time against Valley Primary.
A 3-1 victory meant the boys accumulated 10 points from their 5 matches in total, with 3 wins, a draw and a single loss. They will now have to wait for all the other games in their league to be concluded to see if they've earnt a place at the end of season play-off tournament, a competition to find the South Solihull champions.
Well done to every player who has represented the side this year and to all the families who attended matches and gave their wonderful support.
It was a busy end to the season for the girls' school football team last night with two consecutive games to play at Solihull Moors.
A 3-0 loss to Widney was followed by a 3-0 win against Tidbury Green, a fitting way to complete their league season, finishing with a total of 11 points from their 5 matches.
Well done to all the players who have represented the girls' team this year and to the parents and families who gave their wonderful support.
Last week, Mrs Woodcock accompanied six Year 6 pupils to a poetry enrichment event at Coppice School. The children were asked to create different poems on a range of themes in a very short space of time. The focus was on the quality of the words used and getting pen to paper in a short space of time. As you can see from the examples below, they edited and re-drafted as they wrote. They were also challenged to write a poem at home and you can see that one of our pupils chose to do just that. They represented Greswold brilliantly, Mrs Woodcock was very proud of them and we hope that they were inspired to write even more.
We are delighted that last week we managed to achieve our highest attendance of 2024 and also our highest since November 2023. Thank you for your support with this. Well done to last week's winners: Otters and Oaks.
