  • Greswold secure funding through successful National Highways Social Value grant application!

    Thu 30 Nov 2023

Greswold recently applied for funding to rejuvenate certain parts of the school.  National Highways were advertising a Social Value grant for schools affected by recent improvements made to the M42 motorway.

After meeting with representatives of national Highways, we are pleased to announce school have secured a grant of over £7,000 out of the £10,000 that we had originally applied for.

This funding will help school to rejuvenate and upgrade the outdoor areas between the long corridor and Y3 classrooms along with the stairwell space next to The Nest.  School's aim is to upgrade these areas or all children to access for self regulation and thinking time.  The outdoor areas will hopefully have the feel of 'sensory garden' type spaces with textured surfaces, calming music, benches and furniture.  The one exception will be the space by year 4 which which will be redecorated and house a canopy so the area can be used all year round.

Watch this space for future developments.....

  • Y6 Play Leader Heroes!

    Wed 29 Nov 2023

14 year 6 children went Tudor Grange Academy this morning to learn the skills needed to become lunchtime play leaders.

They worked extremely well as a team and learned lots of fantastic new games which they will be able to engage other children in after Christmas.

  • Christmas comes early thanks to our wonderful PTA!

    Wed 29 Nov 2023

Several funding requests have been granted by the Greswold PTA over the last week, again demonstrating their desire to work in partnership with the school to further enhance the education of all the children here at Greswold.

After last week's funding of the theatre visit for year 2 about The Great Fire of London, several other requests are now being ordered and processed.

These include a long overdue athletics kit to be used by Y5/6 children at annual events such as Cross Country (Y6 boys' winners in 2022 and Y5 girls' winners in 2023), Sportshall Athletics (County Champions 2023) and Borough Sports' (3rd place in 2023).  The kit itself has been chosen by the pupils and is similar to that worn by professional athletes, something which their recent exploits has fully deserved.

At the other end of the school, visitors to the upcoming Nursery and Reception nativity plays will see some new costumes funded by the PTA.

Finally, the positive impact of so many children scooting or cycling into school has not been missed, especially as the current storage spaces are literally overflowing!  Therefore, additional scooter pods for KS1 and KS2 will be purchased, again funded by the PTA.

As a school community, teachers, staff, pupils and parents are extremely lucky to have such an active and busy PTA and for that, we are very grateful.

  • Another successful PTA Movie Night!

    Tue 28 Nov 2023

A second PTA Movie Night took place yesterday, this time for years' 4-6. The children were treated to Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse which they thoroughly enjoyed along with refreshments provided by the PTA.  Thank you again to everyone involved.

  • Attendance Achievements

    Mon 27 Nov 2023

Since coming back after the half term break, we are pleased that our attendance has been at 95% or above, including our 2nd highest attendance total of the year so far (96.04%) .

This week we have celebrated some 'firsts' since starting our weekly attendance awards. We are proud to announce that Otters have reached their 100% hat-trick for the autumn term (well done Otters!). We also had a four-way tie for the attendance award in KS2 between Nightingales, Skylarks, Sparrows and Willows, all on 99.3%! Well done to all four classes.

Thank you for your support with attendance and for working in partnership with us; it really does make a difference to pupils' learning and their time here at Greswold.

  • The 12 days of FITMAS is here!

    Fri 24 Nov 2023

The South Solihull Schools' Sports' Partnership has again issued their fun and festive 12 days of FITMAS physical activity resource pack.  This is a pack to encourage schools and pupils to take short movement breaks: encouraging regular physical activity throughout the school day culminating in an annual event on Friday 8th December called the Santa Dash.

Why not chat with your children about which activity they have been doing this week?

  • Year 2's learning enhanced.....with the help of the Greswold PTA

    Fri 24 Nov 2023

This morning, Year 2 pupils were treated to a theatre experience all about their history topic of The Great Fire of London.  The experience, organised by Mrs Reilly, allowed the children a chance to consolidate all of the knowledge already acquired in lessons but using a different but equally engaging context.

The opportunity was funded by our very own Greswold PTA, another example of how fundraising is used to enhance the education of Greswold pupils and further complementing the school's desire to embed everyday learning in children's long term memories.

    Thank you to everyone involved.

  • It's beginning to look alot like Christmas....

    Fri 24 Nov 2023

School was treated to an influx of PTA Christmas decoration competition entries this morning and what a tough decision it's going to be!

Thank you to all of the children who've taken time to make and send a decoration into school.  The three winners from each year group will be chosen very soon!  However, everyone will be able to enjoy the children's creations as they will adorn our two Christmas trees arriving soon, just in time for the PTA Christmas Fayre in just a fortnight's time on Saturday 9th December starting at 12pm.

  • Y3 Den Building - using Greswold's own environment to enhance their learning

    Thu 23 Nov 2023

This morning, year 3 children came to school geared up with wellies and waterproofs for a special Design and Technology lesson taking place outdoors!

As part of their work on building structures, the children had the opportunity of applying their existing learning to building real life shelters using materials found in our Forest School area.

As you can see below, all the children had a really purposeful and enjoyable time experimenting with different ways of joining natural materials together to create shelters which would keep themselves safe.

Thank you to the year 3 staff and Mr Cooper, in particular, for providing such an immersive learning experience within the backdrop of our own school field.  Most other schools would have to travel to such a destination so it's wonderful to be able to provide this sort of experience without travel or cost!

We are so fortunate to benefit from such a perfect school environment!

  • Greswold learning galleries........sometimes mistaken for school corridors!

    Thu 23 Nov 2023

In case families didn't get chance to see our fabulous learning displays at Parent Consultation evenings last month, here they are in the picture gallery below.

At Greswold, we are firm believers in displaying children's work that they are proud of and the school corridors are the perfect places in order to achieve this.

We sometimes reference that classrooms are the 'workshops' and our corridors are the 'gallery'!  We think our school community would agree that these sorts of displays really showcase the pride and work ethic of our children along with our diverse and expansive curriculum offer.

Notice just how inventive and creative our school staff can be in presenting children's work among eye-catching and complementary scenes.  You may not be aware that a teacher's skillset often stretches to other vocations such as interior designing and artistry!

Look out for new displays at the next Parent Consultation evenings in February though as we change our displays throughout the course of the year!
